Gwalia United appoint new Head Coach

Gwalia United FC is delighted to confirm two significant additions as part of its ongoing growth and ambition — the appointment of Steve McCarthy-Campbell as First Team Head Coach and the signing of goalkeeper Benedicte Håland.

McCarthy-Campbell joins with a deep grounding in Welsh football, having coached extensively across both men’s and women’s programmes at club and academy level. His arrival aligns directly with the club’s strategic focus on structured player development and continued team progression, with Gwalia currently sitting fourth in the FA National Women’s League.

Gwalia United Co-Owner Julian Jenkins said: “Steve’s appointment reflects the club’s clear and long-term ambition — to identify, nurture, and fast-track Welsh players capable of competing at the highest levels. His role will be pivotal in strengthening our player pathway and in continuing to raise standards on and off the pitch. This appointment underlines our commitment to sustainable growth and to building a team that represents Wales with pride and purpose.”

The Head Coach role will integrate immediate team performance with long-term player development, ensuring balance between results and progression.

Complementing that vision is the arrival of Benedicte Håland, whose experience and professionalism bring further strength to Gwalia’s growing squad. A commanding presence between the posts, Håland has played across several European leagues and brings both quality and leadership to the team’s defensive unit.

Head Coach Steve McCarthy-Campbell said: “I’m proud to be joining a club with such a clear identity and vision. My focus will be on developing players, building a strong and united squad, and embedding a professional culture where continuous improvement is at the heart of everything we do. I’m equally excited to welcome Benedicte, whose experience and mentality will be invaluable as we continue to evolve as a team.”

Håland added: “From the first conversation, it was clear that Gwalia United is a club with ambition and purpose. I’m excited to be part of that journey — to compete, to contribute, and to help the team push to the next level.”

Together, these appointments represent another step forward in Gwalia United’s mission to establish itself as one of Wales’s leading clubs — driven by development, performance, and a collective desire to succeed.
