HCWFL Finals Day another big success

The Hampshire County Women's League continues to prosper, comprising six divisions containing 56 teams.

The annual Finals day showcased 6 teams battling it out in three very competitive matches .

The Junior Shield saw Alton Development of Division 5 defeat Farnborough Development by three goals to one. Goals from Jade Arnott, Natalie Hewitt and Lucy Mandell overcame an early Ellie Reed strike for the Division Four side.

The all-Division One clash between Millbrook and Winchester City Flyers Reserves went all the way to penalties after a 3-3 draw. Flyers fought back well from a 3-1 deficit but the Southampton-based team edged them in the shootout to claim the Invitation Cup.

The Junior Cup saw the top two teams in Division Six deliver a thriller with Andover New Street Youth Vixens beating Portsmouth University 3rds 4-2. It was a battle of clinical finishers with Zoe Ridley's hat-trick edging out Charlotte Back's brace for Pompey. Both players scored after excellent solo runs in an exciting first half which ended 3-2. Uni then dominated the whole of the second half but just could not find an equalizer.

Right on full time with Uni pressing, Ridley broke clear on the counter attack and scored from 20 yards with another powerful shot on the run to seal the win for New Street .

Another highly successful Finals day enjoyed by crowds supporting all six teams and a testament to the hard work of all the volunteers of the HCWFL.
