Hourihan in surprise Argyle departure

After a year in the job, Marie Hourihan has left her position as Head Coach of Plymouth Argyle with immediate effect.

Hourihan was appointed into the role last summer and came agonisingly close to a very successful campaign. Argyle finished as runners-up in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division - the highest position in the club’s history - before going on to lose 1-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the resulting Play-Off match.

Plymouth also reached their first national Cup Final, narrowly going down 1-0 to AFC Bournemouth in the FAWNL League Cup Final at Loftus Road.

The club has issued the following statement on its website:

“Marie Hourihan has tendered her resignation as Argyle Women’s Head Coach, opting to move on to pursue other opportunities.

Marie, a former WSL and FA Cup-winning goalkeeper, joined last summer, and helped to steer Argyle to second place in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division, and to the final of the FAWNL Cup.

We would like to thank Marie for her fantastic efforts whilst in charge of the Pilgrims. She made a huge impact on the club, and the squad, and we are grateful for her service.

We wish Marie well in her future endeavours.”
