Lionesses smash transfer world record

London City Lionesses have made history by signing France international Grace Geyoro from Paris Saint-Germain for a record breaking £1.4m, making her the most expensive women’s footballer ever.

The Women’s Super League newcomers have surpassed the previous record set last month when Orlando Pride paid £1.1m to sign Mexico’s Lizbeth Ovalle from Tigres UANL.

This marks the third time this summer that the women’s transfer record has been broken, following Arsenal’s £1m acquisition of Olivia Smith from Liverpool in July. Geyoro, 28, becomes London City’s 16th permanent signing in a transformative summer backed by American owner Michele Kang’s significant investment.

Geyoro, capped 103 times by France with 22 international goals, brings a wealth of experience, having competed in two World Cups, two European Championships, and the 2024 Olympics. Her arrival follows a string of high profile signings for the newly promoted side, including Jana Fernandez from Barcelona, Danielle van de Donk from Lyon, former Manchester United captain Katie Zelem, and England’s 74-cap forward Nikita Parris.

In the final hours of the transfer window, London City also secured Spain international Lucia Corrales from Barcelona for approximately £430,000, activating her release clause. The 19-year-old, who made her senior Spain debut in March but missed out on Euro 2025, signed a four-year deal. A product of Barcelona’s prestigious La Masia academy, Corrales debuted in Liga F and the Champions League in 2022-23 before a loan spell at Sevilla last season.

Geyoro, who joined PSG at 15 and played nearly 270 matches, scoring 54 goals and winning three French Cups, whilst finishing as a UEFA Women’s Champions League runner-up on two occasions. Her experience will be vital as London City prepare for their WSL debut against Arsenal on Saturday. Geyoro could make her first appearance for the Lionesses at home against Manchester United on Sunday 14 September.
