Liverpool complete signing of Mari Ward

Liverpool FC Women have completed the signing of Mari Ward from Bristol City Women FC.

The 20-year-old defender put pen to paper on a contract with the Reds at the AXA Melwood Training Centre following the expiry of her contract with the Robins. Ward is an England U23 international and will wear the No.28 shirt with Gareth Taylor’s side.

She joined Bristol City in the Women’s Super League 2 in 2022, having originally emerged at Plymouth Argyle, and started in every league game bar one last season as they narrowly missed out on promotion.

In total, Ward made 86 appearances and scored six goals for the Robins, helping the club win the Championship in 2022-23 and making 21 WSL appearances in 2023-24.

Ward told Liverpoolfc.com upon finalising the switch: "I’m so excited, Liverpool is such a huge club with such big history so to be a Liverpool player now is really special.

“I’m an attacking full back who likes to get forward and get back, I like to create and join in attacks.

“I hope I can learn so much from the good players and good coaching staff around me and take it all in as much as possible, and then show what I can do on the pitch and reach my potential.

“I can’t wait to put on the Liverpool shirt for the first time, it’s going to be so special. And to walk out as a Liverpool player it’s still unreal to think about that so I can't wait for that moment.”

Ward is the third signing of the summer for the Reds following the deals to bring in Sara Agrez and Vivien Endemann.
