Robson departs as Portishead manager

Portishead Town have announced that manager Chris Robson has stepped down from the role following their 4-1 defeat to Ascot United on Sunday.

The result has left Portishead six points from safety in FAWNL Division One South West and the club has acted quickly to appoint Ali Hines until the end of the season.

The club has issued the following statement:

“Portishead Town Ladies can confirm that Chris Robson has resigned from his position as First Team Manager with immediate effect, following Sunday’s defeat to Ascot United.

Chris initially joined the club in 2021 as a first team coach and has been an integral part of the Ladies section since then, as a coach, in a previous tenure as manager as well as head of Ladies, before returning as manager ahead of this season.

Chris’ devotion to the players has been significant, and the infrastructure he has helped create means he leaves the club stronger than he inherited. The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Chris for his efforts and commitment during his time with us. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

Following this departure, we are pleased to announce that Ali Hines will take over as interim manager until the end of the season. Ali, who holds a UEFA A licence, brings with him a wealth of experience, spanning over 20 years, and has held numerous notable roles, primarily within Bristol City.

These roles have included coaching the Bristol City U21 and U23 teams, as well as working with first team players. We have full confidence in his ability to guide the team through this transition period and help us achieve our goals for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.”
