Hibernian reclaimed the SWPL summit with a 3-1 victory over Edinburgh rivals Hearts in the season’s final derby at Oriam.
Kathleen McGovern struck twice in the first half, scoring within fifteen minutes to give Hibs a commanding 2-0 lead. Hearts responded after the break through Lauren Wade, who converted Emma Brownlie’s cross, but Eilidh Adams sealed the win with a composed finish on the hour mark, slotting past Rachael Johnstone after latching onto a through ball. The result ended Hearts’ hopes of European qualification and restored Hibs’ three point lead at the top, following Glasgow City’s earlier win.
Glasgow City bolstered their title aspirations and ended Celtic’s hopes of retaining the SWPL crown with a 3-1 win at Petershill Park. Nicole Kozlova opened the scoring from a tight angle and doubled her tally before half time, assisted by Brenna Lovera, who then capitalised on a goalkeeping error to make it 3-0. Celtic improved after the break, with Lucy Ashworth-Clifford pulling one back from Kit Loferski’s cross, but City held firm to secure the points, keeping them in contention for the title.
Rangers delivered a commanding 6-0 victory over Motherwell at Broadwood, driven by Katie Wilkinson’s five-goal haul. Wilkinson opened the scoring on 26 minutes, and Mia McAulay added a second early in the second half. Wilkinson then converted a 67th minute penalty before completing a 12-minute hat-trick, taking her season tally to 37 goals. Motherwell, still seeking their first post-split point, offered little resistance. Rangers remain third, two points behind Glasgow City and five adrift of Hibs.
In the bottom half, Aberdeen narrowed the gap on Partick Thistle with a 2-0 win, thanks to early and late goals. Captain Hannah Stewart struck in the fourth minute, converting from eight yards, and Ellie Cowie sealed the victory with three minutes remaining. The result leaves seventh placed Thistle just two points ahead of Aberdeen, with three matches left.
Montrose meanwhile boosted their SWPL survival hopes with a 2-1 win over fellow relegation battlers Spartans. Georgia Carter opened the scoring on 30 minutes, pouncing on the rebound of Tally Robb’s shot that struck the post. Cacee McKenna equalised for Spartans ten minutes later, capitalising on defensive confusion to fire home. Louise Brown’s 74th minute header, from a lofted pass, proved decisive. Montrose are now level on points with Spartans but remain in the relegation zone due to an inferior goal difference.
In a clash between the SWPL’s relegated sides, Dundee United secured a 2-1 victory over Queen’s Park. Megan Burns headed United in front from an early corner, but Abby Callaghan levelled before half time. Burns struck again early in the second half, and her goal proved enough to clinch United’s second league win of the season.
