Scottish Women’s Premier League

Hamilton Academical produced a powerful display as SWPL 2 resumed following the break, running out 8-0 winners over Rossvale to open up a huge lead of eleven points at the top of the table.

Vivienne Strain and Sophie Townsley each netted twice for the Accies and they were joined on the scoresheet by Olivia McStay, Shelley Campbell, Chloe Docherty and Kirsten Love, to seal a twelfth win in fourteen matches for their side who are continuing to run away with the title race.

One other game in the division managed to survive the weather on the weekend, Gartcairn Women producing a fine 3-1 victory away to third placed Boroughmuir Thistle, which returns them into the top half of the table. Yasmin Boyce gave Cairn a first half lead which was doubled after the break by Morgan Anderson and Madison Maxwell added the third. Cailin Michie pulled a goal back for Thistle in injury time but it couldn’t prevent them from going down to their first league defeat since mid-October.

Second placed Kilmarnock will have the chance to close the gap on runaway leaders Hamilton Academical when they take on Ayr Utd on Thursday night.
