Scottish Women’s Premier League

The Scottish Women's Premier League (SWPL) pre-split campaign concluded dramatically on Sunday, with Partick Thistle securing the final top six spot in thrilling fashion, while Glasgow City maintained their stronghold at the summit.

Partick Thistle leapfrogged Montrose to claim the last place in the top six for the post-split phase, thanks to a dramatic late victory at home against Hamilton Academical. Montrose began the day one point clear but fell to defeat against Rangers, meaning Thistle needed only a win to secure their top half berth. The hosts fell behind early when Josi Giard put Accies ahead after 15 minutes. However, Isla Taylor and Addie Handley struck late in the first half to give Thistle a 2-1 lead at the interval. Melissa Reid levelled for Hamilton with an impressive strike from the edge of the box into the corner with 15 minutes remaining—a result that would have denied Thistle the top six, but Celtic loanee Sienna McGoldrick netted with the final kick of the game to seal the three points and confirm Thistle's place in the upper echelon.

Rangers kept the pressure on leaders Glasgow City with a solid victory over Montrose, remaining five points adrift at the top. Mia McAulay opened the scoring for the hosts after 18 minutes, and Laura Berry wrapped up the points with the second goal just over 15 minutes from time. Rangers stay second, ahead of Celtic on goal difference, while Montrose sit seventh.

Glasgow City cruised to a comfortable 4-0 win at Motherwell to preserve their five-point lead at the summit. Nicole Kozlova, Amy Anderson, and Linda Motlhalo netted in the first half to establish a three-goal advantage at the break, despite Lisa Forrest missing a penalty just before half time. Abi Harrison added a fourth in the second period, before Motherwell's day worsened when Kodie Hay was sent off for a second bookable offence late on.

Saoirse Noonan struck a hat-trick as Celtic edged a thrilling eight-goal encounter, 5-3 against Hearts to stay within five points of the leaders. Noonan scored twice in an 11-minute first-half spell to put Celtic 2-0 up, before Eilidh Shore pulled one back for Hearts. Tara O'Hanlon restored the two-goal cushion and Morgan Cross made it 4-1. A Claire Walsh own goal gave Hearts hope, but Noonan completed her treble before Bayley Hutchison grabbed a late consolation for the visitors.

Hibernian rounded off their pre-split fixtures with a comfortable 3-0 triumph at Aberdeen, continuing their revival under the management of Joelle Murray. The Dons held firm for over an hour against the SWPL champions before Kathleen McGovern broke the deadlock with an individual effort. The striker collected the ball on the left, beat several defenders, and rifled an excellent long range effort into the top corner. McGovern added her second with ten minutes left, skipping past two defenders before slotting home. Tiree Burchill sealed the win in stoppage time, converting a low drive from Rosie Livingstone's fine delivery into the area.

The constitution of the teams beyond the split had already been decided during the previous round of matches, but there was still one more set to play before the table was to be divided. Leaders Kilmarnock failed to win for only the second time this season, battling out a goalless draw with Queen’s Park in the top of the table clash, which means they are still thirteen points clear at the top. The result also means that Spartans are back up into second place, moving ahead of the Spiders on goal difference after they defeated East Fife 5-0. Natalie Bandura scored from the penalty spot to give them an early lead, which was doubled before the break by an own goal. Eilidh Davies further increased their advantage early in the second half and Izzy Young rounded off the scoring with a brace. Boroughmuir Thistle lie a further point behind in fourth following their 2-0 defeat at home to Dundee Utd, Callie Bowman and Danni Findlay netting second half goals. Sophie Timlin was on target with the only goal of the game as Gartcairn Women won 1-0 against Livingston and St Johnstone beat Stirling University 5-1 courtesy of Daisy Smith, Megan Burns, Jodie Malcolm, Niamh Irvine and an own goal, with Olivia McHarg replying.
