Vivianne Miedema's double helped Manchester City move a step closer to the Women's Super League title with a comfortable 3-0 derby victory over neighbours Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Andree Jeglertz's side now need just a couple more wins to secure their first league crown in a decade, and the travelling fans departed in jubilant mood after a dominant display from the champions-elect. Miedema scored twice in quick succession during the first half with clinical headers. City took complete control early on, and Kerstin Casparij dealt United a further blow by following up at the back post to make it 3-0 inside 49 minutes. It was the second defeat at Old Trafford for United in the space of a week, following their 3-2 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League on the Wednesday.

Sjoeke Nusken scored a superb late winner as Chelsea edged a seven-goal thriller against Aston Villa, moving up to second in the table. The German midfielder's first time shot curled into the corner in the 82nd minute, finally breaking Villa's resistance at Kingsmeadow. The victory keeps Chelsea's slim title hopes alive – albeit mathematically distant – while ensuring Champions League qualification remains in their own hands. The defending champions fell behind after less than two minutes when a sloppy pass from Lucy Bronze allowed Chasity Grant to sweep home Lynn Wilms' cross. Sam Kerr levelled for Chelsea on 20 minutes after latching onto Nusken's through ball, sparking a chaotic spell of five goals in 15 minutes. Naomi Girma headed Chelsea in front from Lauren James' excellent cross, before James thumped in a 25-yard strike to extend the lead. Villa responded twice before half time, with Kirsty Hanson converting two more Wilms crosses – the second a smart near post finish with her weaker right foot – to draw level at 3-3. Wilms claimed a hat-trick of assists in the process. The second half was calmer, though Hanson struck the post with a thunderous 25-yard effort. Chelsea piled on pressure late on, and it paid off when Kerr teed up Nusken for the decisive curling finish. Villa nearly equalised through Anna Patten, but Chelsea held firm for a vital three points.

Alessia Russo scored a first half hat-trick as Arsenal defeated north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur 5-2 at the Emirates Stadium, moving up to second at the time. The England striker netted twice inside the opening seven minutes, heading home from a corner before confidently rounding the goalkeeper for her second. Tottenham pulled one back when Frida Maanum headed into her own net under pressure from Cathinka Tandberg, but Arsenal quickly restored their advantage. A poor pass from Spurs keeper Lize Kop gifted Russo the ball fifteen yards out, and she thumped home to complete her first hat-trick for the club. Caitlin Foord made the result safe with a smart turn and finish on 61 minutes, while Beth England's late thunderbolt offered Spurs brief consolation. Stina Blackstenius had the final say, slotting in the fifth in stoppage time.

Liverpool secured their first away victory of the season with a hard fought 3-2 win over local rivals Everton at Goodison Park, despite playing with ten players for much of the second half. Three first half goals put Gareth Taylor's side on course for a comfortable result, but Everton's fightback left the visitors clinging on for the points. Liverpool took an early lead from the penalty spot after Inma Gabarro handled in the box, with Ceri Holland calmly slotting home. They doubled their advantage on 20 minutes when Martina Fernandez headed Alejandra Bernabe's cross into her own net. Holland then curled a superb strike into the top corner to give Liverpool a 3-0 half time cushion. Everton improved markedly after the break. Aurora Galli's free kick took a heavy deflection off the Liverpool wall to reduce the deficit. The game turned feisty when Grace Fisk received a second yellow card for tripping Zara Kramzar. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Everton pressed hard, with Maz Pacheco going close and Kramzar hitting the bar before slotting home in the 91st minute to set up a tense finale. Liverpool held firm, however, moving eight points clear of the relegation zone and further distancing themselves from Leicester City.

A stunning volley from Oona Siren helped West Ham United fight back to earn a point against London City Lionesses in their derby battle. Jana Fernandez had given London City the lead on the counter attack in a first half where West Ham struggled for attacking bite. The Finnish midfielder ensured the Hammers salvaged something with an eye-catching first goal for the club, struck sweetly from just outside the box. West Ham started positively but were caught on the break from their own corner in the 20th minute. Freya Godfrey fed Fernandez, who guided the ball home despite a late challenge from Estelle Cascarino. The Hammers failed to muster a shot on target before the interval, though Riko Ueki and Shekiera Martinez both wasted opportunities. Isobel Goodwin should have made it 2-0 for London City on the hour but poked wide. West Ham improved after the break, and Siren met Saki Kumagai's headed clearance from a Viviane Asseyi free kick with a deceptive strike that beat Elene Lete. Late chances fell to West Ham, with Martinez's cross finding Ueki whose header flashed wide, and a long range effort from Martinez also going close.

Leicester City's hopes of avoiding the relegation play-off suffered another blow as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion at the King Power Stadium. Kiko Seike scored the only goal early in the second half, sending the Foxes to a seventh successive loss in the league. Brighton dominated the first half but were wasteful in front of goal. Caitlin Hayes came closest, heading a corner towards the near post only to be denied by a smart save from Janina Leitzig. The visitors needed a moment of quality, and Fran Kirby provided it three minutes into the second half with an inch-perfect pass that released Rosa Kafaji., who unselfishly squared for Seike to tap into an empty net. Kirby nearly sealed the win in stoppage time with a fine long range effort, but Leitzig produced another excellent save. Brighton climbed to sixth with the victory, while Leicester remain bottom, four points adrift of West Ham despite having a game in hand.
