Three return to England squad

Sarina Wiegman has named 25 players for England’s final FIFA World Cup 2027 qualifiers in June, away to Spain and at home to Ukraine in the city of Liverpool.

The Lionesses currently sit top of Group A3, having won all four matches, and with only one spot guaranteeing automatic qualification they will be aiming to secure their place in Brazil at the earliest opportunity.

In all, 22 players were part of the squad who featured in April’s crucial victories against Spain and Iceland, whilst Aggie Beever-Jones, Freya Godfrey and Ella Toone return from injury.

The decisive period begins with an away fixture against Spain on Friday 5 June at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix in Palma [K/O 21.00 CET]. Aided by England’s 1-0 victory over Spain at Wembley Stadium connected by EE, a victory or draw would confirm automatic qualification.

England will then return home for their concluding group-stage qualifier against Ukraine on Tuesday 9 June at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium [K/O 20.00 BST]. The Lionesses come into the match having recorded a 6-1 victory over Ukraine in March. They will become the first England team to play at the Premier League club’s home since it opened in August 2025.  Tickets remain on sale at the following link.

Sarina Wiegman said: “Naming the squad nearly two weeks before we meet-up at St. George’s Park gives the players important clarity as the European season comes to a close. This is clearly a very big moment in our qualification campaign. We have put ourselves in the strongest possible position now and these final two matches give us the chance of qualifying for the World Cup at the earliest opportunity.

“Spain and Ukraine will both provide us with different tests. Travelling to face Spain in front of their home crowd is one of the toughest fixtures we could face but we’ll be ready for the challenge.

“It is nice to be able to end the campaign in front of our home fans against Ukraine. We have always said that taking this team around the country is so important, and we’re really looking forward to playing in front of our supporters at Everton’s new stadium. The city of Liverpool has so many connections to the Lionesses over the years, so it will be a very special evening.”
