Scottish Women’s Football League

The Barclays Scottish Women’s Championship has tightened after a dramatic afternoon which saw leaders Rossvale lose to Stenhousemuir, bottom side Ayr United pick up their first win against Inverness Caledonian Thistle and a pulsating draw in the Tayside Angus derby in Forfar.

Megan Robb hit a spectacular goal from distance to open the scoring for Dryburgh Athletic on 50 minutes but Yasmin McCagh equalised on 70 for Forfar Farmington in front of a decent crowd in the sun.

In-form Stenny stunned leaders Rossvale 3-1 in Kirkintilloch, winger Kyla Thomson opening the scoring within seconds of kick off, Vickerman nodding in a second six minutes later and Cerys Corey tapped in a third late in the first half. Rossvale fought back in the second half and pulled one back on 55 minutes

Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s dip in form continued with a 2-4 home loss to bottom side Ayr United, Elgin City beat Dunipace 5-2 at home while Morton’s unbeaten run at home continued with a 1-1 draw against Bonnyrigg Rose. Stirling University repeated their cup heroics of last week at East Fife with a 3-1 win.

In Barclays League One, the match between Airdrie and Huntly was abandoned after an injury to a Huntly player. Queen of the South have gone top of the table with an impressive 5-1 victory in Aberdeenshire against Westdyke. Cambusdoon beat Dunfermline Athletic 5-0 at home and Inverurie Loco Works came away from St Mirren with a 3-1 win.

In the regional Scottish Women’s Football League divisions, Grampian Ladies dominated Dundee West 10-2, while Dundee East lost 3-0 to Ross County. Benburb and Clydesdale picked up their first wins in SWFL South against Annan Athletic and Newton Stewart respectively.
