Scottish Gas Women’s Scottish Cup

The draw for round two of the Scottish Gas Women’s Scottish Cup took place at Barclays Hampden this evening as twenty-four teams are set to compete for a spot in the next round of the competition.

Twelve teams from the SWF Championship enter the fray along with the twelve winning clubs from the weekend.

Shetland continued their fantastic run yesterday with a 2-1 victory away to Musselburgh Windsor, they’ll travel to Rossvale in round two. Jeanfield Swifts progressed after penalties against Giffnock, whilst Airdrie booked their place in the next round after extra time at the expense of Gleniffer Thistle. They will now face Bishopton and Westdyke respectively. Bishopton and Westdyke were both awarded 3-nil victories and a place in round two after their opponents withdrew from the competition.

Celtic’s Chloe Arthur was on hand to make the draw tonight with host Gordon Duncan, Arthur has recently returned to the Scottish game after a decade south of the border and says she’s relishing her return.

“It’s been nice to be around family and friends,” Arthur said. “I went through the youth academy at Celtic, got to the first team and then ten years later I’m back, so it is really nice.”

Arthur left Scotland in 2016 to join Bristol City before joining Birmingham, Aston Villa and latterly, Crystal Palace. She believes those experiences have helped shape her both on and off the pitch, while a positional change has also seen her develop from the winger who left Celtic into the midfielder she is today.

“I think just being around different environments and different cultures that are down in England, just as a person you grow and you learn different things,” she said.

“I’m in a different position now as well. When I left, I was a winger and now I’m a midfielder, so there’s a lot that’s changed.

“But I’m looking forward to hopefully getting back in amongst it and wearing the shirt again and hopefully getting some wins on the table.”

Reflecting on a cup run to remember in 2015 with Hibs, Arthur reached the final with the Edinburgh side before being pipped at the post by Glasgow City.

“The experience of a cup run and getting to play at Hampden is something that lives with players forever, no matter how old they are,” she said. “I think it’s a really important moment in any players’ career.

“I’ve had experience at Hampden as well and have really good memories with the national team, so I would love to do it again domestically.”
